Shan ethic people’s traditional Thingyan will take place in Hmyawsinkyun, Kandawgyi Park, Yangon on the afternoon of April 7th from 3 to 7 pm according to a representative of the Shan Literary and Culture Association (Yangon).

It will be the first time an event of its kind will be held in Yangon and will involve traditional Shan and cultural dances. Some 10 Shan teams will collectively perform their traditional style of Thingyan festivities under the supervision of the association.

“It is estimated that 1000 people will attend the event. The visitors to the event are advised to be in their own traditional outfits.

For example, Bamar people should be in their longyis and other ethic people in their own traditional costumes. If you are in jeans or skirt, it will not be convenient,” said U Sai Htet Phone who is in charge of organizing the event.

It was announced that Shan people are to be in Shan dress (pinni colour) and there is no admission fee to the event. The visitors will be served traditional Shan foods and entertained with Shan dances and songs.
